I know of parents using reusable cloth nappies on their children. I know they boil the cloths.

That would only be possible if they were pure cotton, but most pads are made of a combination of materials to reduce leakage. Mine can't be washed at that temperature, but I am ironing the cotton top, thereby making them as sterile as they are going to get.
I'm really not too worried though - they seem clean and, as I said before, disposable products aren't actually sterile anyway.Comment

I also came to the conclusion about a year ago that my BV started when I started using tampons. I've been tampon free and using organic unbleached, 90% biodegradable, plastic free pads and panty liners ever since. They also makes organic cotton tampons but I wanted to go tampon free. I've found that using these pads has improved my symptoms but not cured me. Despite that, I will never go back to using regular Always type pads or tampons because I also found that not only did I have BV but that I would also be irritated and itchy down there where the pads touched me. The pads I use now are by a company called Natracare and are made in Sweden. They are more expensive than the always by about $2 but worth it. The ultra ones are super thin, come in a variety of sizes and work so much better than the Always, I never worry about leakage at all. If I had tried to go tampon free using the always I would probably go nuts but these natural pads make it bearable. They are disposable and they can go in your compost bin.
I have to end this but i'll write more tomorrow about what else has been working for me that I don't think anyone on here has tried yet

I have been dealing with the same problem, it usually occurs during after sex or after my cycle.....i have taken so much medication over the years i think its making it worse. I believ there is a cure but if you stop going to the doctors they dont get paid niether does the pharmaceutical companies. I think its something that i have to research myself. I have read on several different sites that peroxide works...i will get back to you on that.Comment

I am new to this forum but have had BV for nearly a year since having a baby. I didn't have it all during my pregnancy. Just like everyone I am miserable. I do have a lot of swelling which I don't recall reading about in other posts. I have been tested by my doc and tried antibiotics but it came back.
I have read on the internet about someone name Kristin Tomlin, I believe that is her name, who has written a downloadable book about a three day cure of BV. It claims that she did a lot of research and has found a way to help women with this terrible affliction. Has anyone tried this?? I haven't seen anyone write about it, but I haven't made it through every page of this forum.
Thanks!Comment

helped me...
Good Morning ladies,
I have been suffering from chronic BV for 5 years. I found something that gave me relief overnight. Maybe it has already been discussed here, but I think it's worth listing again. I had tried using Jarrow probitics vaginally, and the smell was gone. However, I had a lot of discharge and discomfort, I'm not sure if it was from the BV or the capsule causing irriation. So, at the tale end of my period (when the smell could wake the dead)...I opened the capsule (carefully, very carefully lol) and poured it into a gelatin capsule that I purchased from the health food store. I inserted it vaginally. No discomfort. no odor, no white gunky discharge!!!! Please if you all haven't tried this, give it a shot!!! I'm not sure how often I will have to use these to prevent it from returning..but I will let you know. Best of Luck! I'm very very happy!! I think my prayers have been answered.Last edited by bvwarrrior; 02-01-2010, 03:26 AM.Comment

Keeping my fingers crossed...
This is the first time I've posted on this forum, but I've read through many of the hundreds of pages of posts and I understand completely what you are all going through.
The first time I was diagnosed with BV was about 2-3 years ago, I was given ONE (or maybe it was 2) pills, I don't recall the name of it- but it did the trick and it went away. It didn't come back for at least a year and a half, UNTIL I went back to sleeping with the guy I had been sleeping when I had first been diagnosed with BV- and of course it returned (even though the doctor swore it wasn't sexually transmitted). They gave me the flagyl pills, it went away for a couple of months and then of course it came back. So I cut that guy off completely and figured that would solve my problems. It didn't. A couple months later it came back- it didn't make sense to me that it was sexually transmitted, but maybe I was just sensitive to whatever soap the guy was using? Maybe? I dont know. Well I got the Flagyl Pills again, and it went away.
Well I haven't messed with that guy since then but I have still had BV about 4 or 5 times in 2009- January 2010. That just ridiculous. I've taken Flagyl multiple times and the metronidazole gel twice. Nothing has worked. These past couple months I've taken the meds and then been BV free for a week or 2 before it returned again. Well I got sick of taking the medications prescribed by the doctors because they clearly weren't working for me. Plus I don't have health insurance so I can't afford to go to the gyno for a visit or pay $85 for the metronidazole gel.
So I tried something new- and I'm keeping my fingers crossed because so far its helped. I noticed the BV was coming back a couple weeks ago and I knew I wasn't going to get another refill of the medication so instead I went and got the rephresh pro-b vitamins, some hydrogen peroxide, and the VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (From CVS- about $25 dollars). Day 1 I started taking the pro-b vitamins, "cleaned" out my vag with some hydrogen peroxide to get the worst out and help the good bacteria multiply. Then at bed I used the first (of 6) inserts. on Day 2 I could already tell it was working, so I continued the next 5 days of inserts that come in the box while taking the rephresh pro-b vitamins everyday and its been over a week and I feel completely clean. Not only is the BV gone, but I can smell the NORMAL smell again. Of course this has happened with every medication i've taken then its always returned, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm going to continue to take the rephresh pro biotic vitamins everyday to maintain a healthy vagina. Hopefully this keeps everything balanced.
My theory is this: something threw my balance off and although the medications were able to get rid of the BV, it wasn't able to keep my vagina balanced, so thats why it kept coming back, which is why I'm taking these vitamins, in hopes that it can actually do what the bottle says, which is to maintain the balance and flora of a healthy vagina.
I definitely suggest this treatment.
1 rephresh pro-b vitamin daily (bought at Walmart- or any drug store)
hydrogen peroxide
VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (1 insert at night for 6 nights) (Can find at CVS and Rite Aid I believe)
I will keep you updated on whether or not it returns, so far so good though and it started working immediately.
Good luck everyone!Comment
