    (Answering Obelisks long post).
Why should instincts direct men to large breasts? They should direct men to women with wide hips for easier child-birth, and with moderate extra body-fat to deal with the very real problems of starvation for most of our evolution.

My wife would be less attractive with large breasts. I would still love her if she got implants, and she has every right to do so if she wants, but it would make her less attractive to me. (I know Obelisk doesn't believe this). Look at ancient Greek statues of beautiful women, they are of varying breast size, but mostly medium, not huge.

In any case, your penis size is what it is. You may be able to make small changes, but you are still unlikely to be the biggest that a woman has ever seen. So, be the best at something else.

Most importantly break out of "ladder theory" type of thinking. It is insulting to yourself and to others. It gives the idea that any any time the woman you are with isn't the one you want, just the one you settled for. It make you think that a woman who is with you has settled, and might at any time find someone higher on this "ladder". I'm sure some people think that way - and I expect most of them are pretty unhappy.

When I met my wife I was a poor college student from a quite unsuccessful family, with old clothes, and a rather limited sense of style. Now I'm fairly wealthy, high status career (people fly me around the world to give talks) - does the ladder theory suggest that now that I'm higher on the ladder I should trade-in my wife for one who is also higher?

That would be my sister and every time she finds that the guy she upgraded to has just as many problems as the one she left. She has yet to have a happy relationship for any real length of time and she's dated practically every guy in highschool including cheating on her bf for the foreign exchange student, every guy in her college program (she was going to marry one and cancelled last minute), and every unmarried guy at her work. I gave up keeping up with who was her bf at any given time. I'm not sure she'll ever accomplish a good relationship and have the kids she wants. Of course she's a chemical engineer making 6 digits 2 years out of college so she can be a single mom and just pay someone to look after them all day.

Well forgive me for saying this, but how is this situation the exception rather than the norm? It's been the norm for me, and I want to find a woman who doesn't feel like she's settling for me.

Adult humans don't have instincts. This is the problem with evolutionary psychology. It treats us just like any of the other animals. We're not. Culture, individual preference, and background play a major role. It's why some people like really big butts, others like them small, and others prefer them in between. The same goes for any physical feature. Bigger does not equal better.

I don't even know how to answer this without sounding shallow. Particularly since very few women I've dated were stunning. 80% have been homelier.

There is a level that cultural norms have shaped certain preferences between people.

With that said, I would honestly like to know how many women would prefer a 4" penis over a 7" penis, from whatever culture they are from.

If you can show me any amount larger than 5% you might have an argument.

I may regret my decision to get involved in this discussion.....

I'm a 41 yr old woman and I've not slept with a lot of men, but a few-less than 10. They are all about the average size, I suppose. I'm estimating 6-7" and one was obviously wider to me-maybe closer to 8", I don't remember for sure. In looking back, it isn't the bigger guy I tend to fantasize about, but actually a smaller, curved one who happened to be attached to a less experienced man even...who was simply more caring, attentive and I think he truly loved me. I think that's where my satisfaction came from.

And I cannot honestly say that I would prefer that bigger one over the smaller one...maybe the smaller guy was harder or it was simply the love we felt, but I was much more satisfied...
Bottom line for me is, sex is a mental exercise...the penis matters less to me.
So there, for what it's worth.

Is appearance the most important thing for your? (honestly asking). I asked if you were settling, and you mention the appearance of the women you date.

I have a friend who dated based on appearance - and who went through a series of miserable relationships with women who were not a good match for him, or some who were outright nut-cases .

As you get older would you still want to date young beautiful women?
