Can You Bring A Vibrator In Your Carry-On Bag Or Luggage?

If you’re planning a honeymoon or romantic getaway — or just looking to enjoy some “me time” during your next business trip, you might be wondering “Can I bring a vibrator in my carry-on bag or checked luggage?”
You can. In fact, I’ve done it myself — with ease.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) allows adult toys in both carry-on and checked baggage.
That said, it’s important to be aware of two things: Security screening and battery restrictions.
In this article, we’ll cover:
Going Through Airport Security With A Vibrator
All carry-ons — along with laptop bags, backpacks, purses, and anything else you’re carrying — go through security screening at the airport before boarding domestic and international flights.
While the process mostly involves X-ray machinery, there are times when you may be pulled aside to have your bag or personal items checked by a TSA agent.
If your vibrator would embarrass you, it’s probably best to stow it in your checked luggage.
This is especially true if you’re at all nervous about being “caught” with a vibrator in your carry-on bag.
It’s important to remember that the folks working the security checkpoints in airports are trained to notice signs of anxiety or nervousness in passengers who are waiting in line.
You might be on edge about the 9” rabbit vibrator in your bag, but to an inspector’s eye, that nervousness might translate to “This person is hiding something illegal in their bag… I’d better look through it myself.”
If your bag is checked personally by the TSA, they won’t take your vibrator from you — unless it’s so large that it could double as a “club-like” weapon.
They also shouldn’t make any commentary about it, beyond “Here’s your bag. Have a nice day.”
Should the TSA agent ask you about it for any reason, channel the most confident person you know, smile widely, wink if you want to, and declare that it’s a vibrator.
No shame.
If you’re traveling internationally, however, it’s important to note that sex toys are illegal in some countries — so always research your destination before packing your bag.

Batteries In Electronic Devices On Flights
The second thing to consider when flying with a vibrator involves the use of batteries.
Before arriving at the airport, make sure to remove the batteries from your vibrator if you’re able to — whether you’re taking it with you in your carry-on or checking it with your luggage.
This will ensure that it doesn’t accidentally turn itself on if the bag is jostled.
Additionally, some rechargeable vibrators have a “travel lock” feature that keeps them from activating if buttons are bumped by other items in your luggage.
Although non-lithium dry batteries are permitted in carry-on and checked bags, lithium batteries with more than 100 watt-hours are permitted only in carry-on baggage — they cannot be placed in checked luggage.
Most vibrators don’t use lithium batteries, but if yours does, this is something to be aware of before you head to the airport.
It is worth noting that you will likely be asked about the electronics you’re carrying with you — specifically whether any of your devices have lithium batteries.
For this reason, you may have to declare your vibrator but again — this is only an issue if it uses a lithium battery.
Tips For Traveling With A Vibrator
Even though you can bring a vibrator in your carry-on and checked luggage, some are better suited for travel than others.
For example, a smaller vibrator such as a bullet, clit sucker, or vibrating egg might fit best in a carry-on bag — and look a little less conspicuous if your bag gets checked by a TSA agent.
A larger rabbit vibe or vibrating wand might travel more comfortably in your checked luggage.
Nothing should stop you from bringing your biggest vibrator on a trip if you feel compelled to do so.
That said, if your vibrator is especially large — bordering on the size of a “club-like” weapon — you should check it with your luggage, otherwise you’re risking possible confiscation from your carry-on bag.
Before heading to the airport, make sure to:
- Research the airline you intend to fly and the country you’re going to if traveling internationally; some destinations (such as the United Arab Emirates) do have customs restrictions on sex toys
- Remove the batteries from your vibrator or set the “travel lock” feature if it has one
- Place your vibrator in a clear plastic bag (like a Ziploc) for easy handling if a TSA agent checks your carry-on
- Pack your vibrator in your checked luggage if it is large enough to be used as a weapon or might “look” like a weapon or grenade as it passes through the X-ray machine
- If you’re bringing lube, make sure that it adheres to the TSA’s rules on liquids: Bottles under 3.4 ounces can go in carry-on luggage but should be contained in a plastic Ziploc bag; bottles over 3.4 ounces must go in checked luggage
- Leave shame and embarrassment behind — this is your trip and if you want to have fun with your vibrator, you’re entitled and it’s nobody’s business but your own
A vibrator in your luggage is a surefire way to make any trip worthwhile, and thankfully traveling with one is a breeze.
