I think we all want connection and love, its a normal human desire. We also want to experience sex and many levels of pleasure associated with it. The two are best together. Everyone is nervous and excited about starting to explore this, its a bit scary, a challenge and an adventure.
I kind of feel like your steering me to the celibacy/true love dichotomy. Maybe I am misunderstanding you?

Of course there is an alternative to celibacy/true love -- and pages and pages of response explaining what that is: Dating, flings, one nght stands, friends with
Well what do you mean that dating is an alternative to the dichotomy? Is that a speciific class of sexual activity? I am not sure what you mean except perhaps as a way to those other things?

How do you expect to get to know a woman well enough to create the kind of relationship you want?

Expressing yourself is important but you have to have a platform to do so. Dating gives two people special access to each other and an opportunity to express themselves more deeply than they might do in general public.

I think dating is the way to go.

I haven't disagreed with that idea at all.

Now it seems logical to me to express my intentions as part of asking that person for a date.

That is what I don't get.

As for my question to hopeless dork that was about her describing dating as an alternative to the dichotomy and I wanted to know what she meant. Dating per se. Or a particular sub set of dating?

So is making your intentions clear that you find somebody attractive in a frankly sexual way hitting on somebody? Of course I would want to get to know them better and I wouldn't rule out other things I'd actively consider them. So yes I would want to date that person before proceeding to anything heavy. What kind of relationship it would be would depend on all sorts of things but a mutial decision would be paramount. What do call that approach to dating? It wouldn't be the only approach I have because different gals give off different vibes. But is that normal?

You don't want no strings attached sex or you don't believe what I am saying is normal?
