Porn is no big deal...
American women get too hyper about porn. What's the problem with that? That is nothing wrong. I am originally from Brazil and all my female friends and women in general watch porn frequently. Not a big deal at all. In our country, women go topless to the beaches, most of them wear thong bikinis. Kids grow up with this. I grew up like that, seeing barely dressed women since I was 9. It shows on TV, etc. And that does not make our people sicko or something. In America there are more child predators than anywhere I have learned about it. It seems that every girl in America who gets raped also gets killed. I think too much pressure or puritanism make people crazy. Sex is something natural. Watching porn should not be a good deal. People make it sould like it is something really bad, but it is not. I have been married for 10 years, never cheated on my wife - and yet watching porn whenever I have the chance. So does my wife's brother who also have been married for 12 years. Not a big deal at all. Women, grow up. Find out more about the history of pornography and you will see that it comes along for thousands of years. Ever heard of the Kama Sutra? It is nothing more that porn - made 2500 years ago.Comment

you're foolish.
porn's prevalance for many years has no bearing on whether or not it's healthy. nor does your having grown up with a "liberated" sexuality have any relevance to whether or not brazillian attitudes are positive.
murder has been around longer than porn has - shall we celebrate it?Comment

So What porn has to do with murder? You are a little bit confused here. We are not talking about murder. The subject here is porn and I am telling what I have learned with it through the years. Wherever the British Puritans have settled they left these big guilty feeling about sex along with racism and other things. Not every culture is like that. Your comparison is very poor because we are not talking about murder, and I am not asking noone to celebrate porn. Just not to make a big deal out of it because it is not a big deal. It is there. If you wanna watch it you should be free to do so. If you don't wanna watch it, you should be free to choose also.Comment

it's an excellent analogy. you indicated that, because porn has been around for thousands of years, women should "grow up" & stop making a big deal out of it. my point is that murder has also been around thousands of years - just because something's been around a while is no reason to think it's not a big deal. i'm not saying porn and murder are connected. i'm saying your logic is flawed & illustrating that using murder as an example. i could have used jealousy or polution or bullying to make the same point.
when you proclaim that porn is not a big deal, you're voicing an opinion. and it's a wrong one. porn is an overwhelmingly huge deal, and it's impact on society is devestating. the destruction it leaves behind in individual relationships is painfully evident on this board.Comment

I am female and happily married. My husband watches porn.
I can see both arguments about porn, but I think the negative side of porn is based on fear, misunderstanding, and society.
Why is it that our society condones watching movies involving hideous murders but not sex?
Sex is a natural part of life, and everyone has sexual thoughts. Some people just "check other males/ females out", some have sex dreams which they can't control, some read dirty novels, forums, magazines, and some watch porn. I find it hard to believe that there is anyone that doesn't think sexual thoughts (and I just mean thoughts about sex in general, not thoughts of cheating) outside of their significant other.
I don't watch porn because I don't like the hard core stuff. I do enjoying watching sex scenes in rated r movies which is not much different. If I can be turned on by a rated R movie and still love my husband, stay faithful, and think he is the most amazing man in the world, then he can and does the same with porn, and so can and probably does, any husband that still loves his wife and has a good emotional/ sexual relationship.Last edited by Tango; 11-22-2009, 09:11 AM.Comment

IMHO This is a statistical confusion between Correlation and Causation, the two are not the same100% true. Porn is not only insidious, it is dangerous. Where do you (accepting women) draw the line? Your man can look at porn as long as it's just women? What if that turns into children? Is that okay too? Or animal porn? What if their 'curiosities' turn to realities. ALL of this is very possible. Prohibit porn in all situations. It is unacceptable.
Do a little research on the criminal mind. See how many convicted molesters, rapists, etc,... started out 'just viewing porn'.
If I watch film SAW does it turn me into a physo maniac, I don't think so.
Porn is very widely available and fortunately abuse is not.Comment

I agree with every single line posted by whilhelm; well explained, you have my total respect.
It is not 'normal' to watch porn when you have a willing partner. Yes, sex can lose it's excitement but that does not mean that whenever we are turned on we have to have an orgasm looking at suppressed strangers as if we cannot control ourselves. A lot of things can become boring in a relationship, but we must work on them, not find other people to fulfill our voids instead.
No, not all men do this. There are men who actually value their wives' feelings and understand the effect of masturbating to actresses can have to one's SO. There are men who value intimacy and sex more than self pleasure. Don't ever let anyone convince you of the contrary.
In a world where women are used as objects for money it is very difficult to keep your self esteem as a woman. Porn always stays fresh but the wife grows older, has more responsibilities and less time to fulfill all her husbands' sexual wishes, let alone receive as much as they give.
It is boring for us to cook for our man every day, wash his clothes, clean the house, take care of our selves, our jobs, our education, but we would never hire a girl to do all this for us instead; we willingly do it for the sake of the relationship. But why is it ok for men to look at something 'different' when they have an erection? Why should that be accepted?
How many women are out there whose husbands have never given them an orgasm and yet would never consider looking for it from another man? What if such a woman would say "I only want to do it to experience orgasm, of course I only love my man"? That would be unacceptable in our society, wouldn't it? But to tell a man "hey, can you keep your penis in your underwear for just a few hours until we have sex" is out of the question, you can't tell that to a man, men have urges, they are animals, it's already hard enough to have a faithful man, can't ask him not to ejaculate every day, can you? Isn't that what we are told?
But women should always be there for support, always be the mother, the partner, the occasional sexual partner, the loyal one, the saint, the one who has to use the make up to hide her wrinkles, the one who has to dress in a sexy way to keep her man, the one who must shave every day because hairs are a turn off, the one who has to have a hair cut every month to look fresh, the one who is not allowed to be jealous for she will turn into a hysterical b*tch, the one who has to fulfill all of her man's sexual needs so he won't cheat on her for someone younger, the one who must let her man ejaculate to women on a screen with absolutely no self respect. Because women don't have needs, they exist to support men, they don't want sex as much as men do. Women can manage, they are so different to men after all. Let the children play.
Isn't that what our society promotes every day? Isn't that what we are force-fed through films, books, marketing and television? And are we supposed to just accept it out of fear of being alone and because we cannot have children after the age of 40? NO! Women are NOT meant to accept this just because. How can there be women who say "it hurts that my man watches porn but I let him do it because I don't want him to cheat on me, he's a man, I have to accept it"? How can you let another human being intentionally hurt you with his only argument being his gender? How can you do that to yourself? What would you advise your daughter if she'd come to you with the same problem? Would you commit the same crime and tell her "you have to let him watch, he's a man"? That's what women used to say many years ago about cheating "all men do it, can't do anything about that - just stick to looking after the house like a good wife".
Please, just wake up and stand up for yourselves. Your feelings do not worth any less than those of your man. His health will not be affected in any way if he doesn't ejaculate every day. His mind will be a lot more clearer without porn images infecting his brain and he will focus more on what you want him to do to you than him wanting you to do what actresses do on a film. Do not tolerate the threat of "I will either watch porn or cheat on you" because you are not supposed to be threatened by a man who claims he loves you. Just wake up already.Comment

OK, here's my view! I don't think porn is a bad thing, my boyfriend and I both watch pron and it doesn't affect our relationship, never once has he not satisfied me because he'd rather watch porn. I understand that they are just fantasies, he watches it purely for masturbation purposes, not because he is looking for something more, it's not emotional, it's meaningless, it's purely self pleasure. The same applies for me, I don't care about the people, it's the same as watching a movie, except the acting isn't as good and there's lots more sex.
I completely disagree with the whole thing that started about men who watch porn rape people, if that was true women could never leave the house, because men watch porn, and what about women who watch porn, do they want to rape too? No, because porn is nt rape, the people who star in porn movies sign contracts, documents all consenting to the video. At least legitimate porn......yes there are some sick videos out there, that's where the mine should be drawn, but the police and governments are doing all they can to sort out situations like that.
I think that the people on this thread who are against porn and think it is 'evil', get a grip, porn is as evil as a Hollywood movie, personally I think teenagers should be taught to watch porn and that masturbation is a good thing, it would sure as help beat teenage pregnancy, that's what they do in Holland and they have one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in Europe. So porn is not evil, neither is masturbation, it is release of sexual tension. It is good. And I will defend my point to those haters!Comment
